THINGS TO DO AND PLACES TO VISIT
The county of Northumberland extends north from the Tyne and the town of Hexham to the border town of Berwick at the mouth of the River Tweed. Ovingham is well placed to access a wide variety of rural landscapes from the unspoilt beaches of the north east coast to the Cheviot Hills, Kielder Forest and reservoir to the west. Stunning countryside is crossed by quiet roads and cycle routes, bridle ways and footpaths. This is a landscape rich not only in natural and ecological features but abounding in historical interest with very evident archeological and historical remains from the Roman to the Industrial periods.
The shops of Newcastle and the Metrocentre are easily accessible by rail or road. Newcastle’s recently revamped cultural life adds the Sage (contemporary art) and Baltic (music) to a series of museums and galleries such as the Laing Gallery and Discovery Museum that cater for all ages and interests. Theatres include Northern Stage, Live Theatre and The Theatre Royal.
